JOB SUMMARY

Project Engineer II is a part of the overall engineering team that supports the Project Managers in all operational aspects of a construction project. PE II will spend approximately 75% of their time collecting data and analyzing field operations. 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  •  Distribute and update project plans / specifications to project team and subcontractors.
  • Work with Area and Project Superintendents to track material needs and availability for all projects.
  • Place advance order for materials.
  • Perform material takeoffs on project plans utilizing Bluebeam or manually by hand.
  • Review, prepare, submit, and track submittals for projects assigned to your Project Management team.
    This includes suppliers and subcontractor submittals.
  • Assist in the coordination and scheduling of subcontractors and other forces.
  • Review & monitor HCSS timecards created in the field for timely submission.
  • Work with Project Manager & Superintendent to develop look ahead schedules.
  • Track and document quantities and field measurements for progress payment purposes. This includes performing on-site measurements. 
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Conduct safety inspections; investigate damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites, to ensure that proper procedures are being carried out. Submit accident reports. 
  • When necessary, attend pre-bid, project and closeout meetings.
  • Prepare / transmit project documentation, such as: correspondence, project schedule, memos, requests for information, transmittals, submittals, etc. 
  • Working with Foreman, prepare and submit daily timecards / diaries. 
  • Collect material / trucking / specialty subcontractor tags for processing and tracking. 
  • Prepare and discuss daily production analysis w/ project management team. 
  • Working with foreman / super, prepare and submit daily dispatch orders.  In conjunction with foreman, create Daily Extra Work Reports. Get signed by Owner, log and track. Turn in signed copy to Project Admin. 
  • Order / schedule trucking and material deliveries, with input from foreman and Super.
  • Prepares and disseminate all required documentation records such as status reports, punch lists describing work items to be done, sketches / pictures of work already completed, and material requirement calculations to supervisor to provide accuracy.
  • SWPPP – Weekly on-site inspection, if required.
  • Submit required permit application, follow-up on review progress and receive upon approval. Submit check request to finance for associated fees according to check request procedures.
  • Be Project Manager’s eyes and ears on the jobsite.
  • Maintain customer relations and when necessary, conduct project update meetings.
  • Document quality and progress of each subcontractor and suppliers. Update subcontractors and suppliers of any changes to the plans, specifications and/or schedule. 
  • Notify supervisor of any issues that arise which affects quality, budget, progress, and safety
  • Invoice processing 
  • Additional responsibilities may be included at supervisors’ discretion Create purchase orders and subcontracts for any missing / added items.
  • May supervise, direct, and mentor project staff to ensure individual development and that project / company standards are met. 

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES 

  • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawing and specifications, building materials and required standard applicable to discipline.
  • Proficient with MS Office products.
  • Proficient with scheduling (Primavera P6) and AGTEK take-off software.
  • Must be able to create and/or review complex mathematical formulas to assist with calculating area and volume measurements.
  • Masters standard processes for using Heavy Jobs and HCSS Plans and demonstrates ability to apply consistently to day-to-day tasks.
  • Masters standard processes for using Spectrum and demonstrates ability to apply consistently to day-to-day tasks.
  • Demonstrates relationship management skills and the ability to develop into a team leader.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work on multiple projects, under tight deadlines with minimal direct supervision.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.
  • 2+ years in construction estimating support, project engineering, field support, or similar experience.
  • SWPPP – QSP Certified
