Safety Coordinator

Location: Greater Bay Area (Travel Required) | Status: Full-Time (Field-Based) | Industry: Heavy Civil Construction

We specialize in complex public works and infrastructure projects throughout Northern California. We are seeking a proactive, field-focused Safety Coordinator to join our growing team and support our commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

 Position Summary:

The Safety Coordinator provides direct field-level safety support and reinforces day-to-day compliance with company policies and Cal/OSHA safety standards. Working closely with crews and leadership, the Safety Coordinator serves as a visible safety resource, conducting inspections, supporting training efforts, and promoting a strong safety culture across assigned project(s).

 This is a field-based position. The selected candidate will regularly travel to job sites across the Greater Bay Area and will only occasionally report to our Concord office. Flexibility to work night shifts, weekends, or variable hours is essential based on project needs.

 Team Structure & Reporting:
This position reports directly to the Safety Manager and works in close coordination with the Safety Department. The Safety Coordinator serves as a visible and trusted presence in the field, helping to implement company safety initiatives while reinforcing expectations through daily engagement.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular field safety audits, observations, and inspections
  • Deliver or assist with safety training, toolbox talks, and onboarding
  • Respond to and assist with incident investigations and hazard mitigation
  • Monitor field conditions, safe work practices, and PPE use
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, training, and observations
  • Support and mentor Short Service Employees (SSEs) and new hires
  • Promote open communication between crews and the Safety Department
  • Share field observations and ideas for continuous safety improvement
  • Participate in agency inspections and regulatory compliance efforts
  • Travel daily to job sites throughout the Greater Bay Area

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in construction safety, preferably in heavy civil, industrial, or energy-related work
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Completion of Cal/OSHA 30-Hour for Construction, or OSHA 510
  • Certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (CHST, OHST, STS-C, or higher)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to work night shifts, weekends, or extended hours as required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of heavy construction field experience
  • California Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) certification
